Genox Is the First Halal Disinfectant; Export Growth Expected
ZAGREB, 28 April 2021 – After two years of effort and verification, the domestic company Genox has obtained an important recognition – a halal certificate. Genox is Croatia’s largest producer of ecological disinfection and cleaning products; it has been manufacturing them for almost 20 years, and its users include households, shops, factories, farms, hospitals, the police, civil protection, and more. During the coronavirus crisis, the disinfectant business exploded, and now the company hopes for increased exports to countries where a halal certificate is required.
“Genox meets all rigorous criteria for a halal product, starting with the fact that it does not contain a single molecule of alcohol. Simply put, we do not use it, and that is our greatest advantage. And there are many benefits: our products are safe, not explosive or flammable, do not evaporate; therefore, they do not require special protective measures during handling,” emphasizes molecular biology engineer Marijana Ćiško, who runs this family business in Velika Gorica.
Genox is produced using a special, patented Aquagen technology, and the invention is credited to engineer Marijana Ćiško. Buyers from countries with Muslim populations had already noticed this production advantage earlier, and their interest surged during the pandemic.
“I believe this certificate will open many doors that will remain inaccessible to the vast majority whose disinfectants are mostly alcohol-based. We expect increased exports to regional markets, primarily Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to more distant ones,” says the company’s director.
The certificate was presented today by Aldin Dugonjić, who heads the Centre for Halal Quality Certification at the Islamic Community in Croatia, and Muhamed Mandžić, the lead halal quality auditor. “According to recent research, companies in Croatia increase their product exports by 1–50 percent after obtaining a halal certificate. Taking into account the rapid growth and development of the halal market, our expectations for Genox products are high, but the results, of course, also depend on sales and marketing activities in the market,” said Aldin Dugonjić. He noted that in the 10 years of the Centre’s existence, they have issued over 150 certificates, and in the database of halal-certified companies, the food industry is most represented, followed by the hospitality sector and the chemical industry. Genox, however, is the first disinfectant to obtain a halal certificate, said Aldin Dugonjić.
Incidentally, TLK Group – of which Genox is a part – has begun constructing a new factory in the Pleternica Business Zone due to increased production. The value of this investment will be around 40 million Croatian kunas; the factory will be built over two to three years and will employ about 30 people. In the first phase, the factory itself will be built (an investment of 25 million kunas), followed by a research laboratory, and finally an administrative building.
