“Bijesna Glista” in Sisak is the first birthday venue with a Halal certificate in Croatia
The “Bijesna Glista” birthday party venue in Sisak is the first birthday venue in Croatia to receive a HALAL certificate, a special certificate from the Islamic Community.
“Halal quality is actually something that is permissible, primarily for Muslim men and women from birth to death, although today it is in fact globally present and signifies an additional quality. When you establish an additional system of control over the preparation and ordering of food, production, and service provision, you thereby raise your level of quality. This is a growing market, which is why many companies in Croatia are opting for the Halal certificate, in order to open new markets and boost exports. There is also that service segment, particularly in tourism, where services are offered to guests who seek Halal.

“Many probably know Bijesna Glista, but do not know that besides being a birthday venue, it is also a centre for creative education. Today we are celebrating our 8th birthday, and we are extremely pleased to have received the Halal certificate – so this is a special way of eating according to the Islamic religious community, and we have worked on this for a long time; it is part of our business strategy, and by this I do not just mean obtaining this certificate, but spreading a sense of togetherness and tolerance toward all cultures and religions, because children of various cultures and members of various faiths really do come to us.

We operate as an association and constantly reflect on what our business policy is and in which direction we want to go. Of course, birthday parties are the most popular, but we want to dig a little deeper. So during the earthquake, when we saw that the children were in a rather poor psychological state, we ran free playrooms called ‘Igrom protiv panike’ (‘Play Against Panic’), and hundreds of children came to us, whom we relaxed through calming activities and with the help of professional associates. Our business policy goes precisely along this path, and Halal is one part of it. I think this is good news and a crowning achievement of our efforts to progress in all directions and, through children, spread tolerance and awareness of how similar and different we are,” said Margareta Horžić, owner of the Bijesna Glista birthday and play venue.

With the Halal certificate obtained today, which is valid for three years, this birthday venue offers an environment and atmosphere also for those children who live and feel the value of the Islamic faith in their lives – emphasised Alem ef. Crnkić, the chief imam and representative of the Islamic Community in Sisak.

“I congratulate the owners of the birthday and play venue, who have shown sensitivity and a sense for the richness of diversity and other cultures that practice their values and their religious feelings. This is a very nice step and a beautiful act, and we are glad that our Sisak, which is first in many things, is now also the first city with a Halal birthday and play venue,” stressed imam Alem ef. Crnkić.
