Book “Halal – A Standard Tailored to Humans” Promoted at the Islamic Centre in Umag

On Saturday, 13 June 2020, in the premises of the Islamic Centre in Umag, the book Halal – A Standard Tailored to Humans by Dr. Aldin Dugonjić, Head of the Centre for Halal Quality Certification in Croatia, was promoted.

In addition to the author, one of the promoters was the Chief Imam of the MIZ Sisak, Alem ef. Crnkić.

Mektep students of the MIZ Umag opened the promotion evening with an appropriate ilahija (Islamic hymn), after which the host, Chief Imam of the MIZ Umag, Elvedin ef. Posavljak, delivered words of welcome and the opening moderator’s remarks, emphasizing that the question of “halal” is an extremely important topic in the daily life of Muslims, and that many aspects and dimensions of halal are known only superficially or insufficiently, which is why a lecture on this topic through a book promotion is desirable.

Alem ef. Crnkić, as one of the promoters, spoke about the fundamental principles on which “halal and haram” are based in the culture of everyday religious life, stating that “halal and haram” are the axis around which the life of a Muslim revolves, is created, and pulsates, and that they are present from the birth to the death of every Muslim.

Calling this book the “ABC of halal,” and therefore excellent reading for anyone who wishes to gain insight into the broader picture and aspects of halal business, as well as the criteria that must be met to obtain a halal certificate, Alem ef. emphasized that the value of this book lies in its scientific verification, documentary–research dimension, and results that prove the hypotheses set forth regarding the increase in exports of the food industry and the development of tourism in Croatia.

Author Dr. Aldin Dugonjić spoke about the motives behind the creation of this work, referring to the doctoral dissertation that forms part of the book, through which he wished to prove, via the hypotheses he set, that the halal industry is an extremely important segment in the development and contribution to the economy and entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia.

“Often as Muslims we are not aware how certain aspects and values of our faith, such as halal food, can contribute to breaking down prejudices and improving the positive image and perception of our religion,” emphasized Dr. Dugonjić, presenting a series of interesting details from meetings and interactions with people from various companies that applied for a halal certificate through the Centre for Halal Quality Certification in the Republic of Croatia.

“Halal has become a global brand that is recognizable worldwide, including in Croatia, which has recognized in halal the ‘branding’ of many top-quality products that, with a halal certificate, have found their market in many countries around the world,” stressed Dr. Dugonjić.

All proceeds from the sale of the book were donated by the author, Dr. Dugonjić, for the construction of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Sisak.
